The Princess Anne Police Department has become active in the community and has developed the following programs through its community affairs office.
The C- SAFE program which stands for “Collaborative Supervision and Focused Enforcement”. Enables the police department to work closely with other agencies such as: Maryland State Police, Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Social services, department of Juvenile Services and the Department of Parole and Probation. Together with the community, problems are solved to improve the quality of life in Princess Anne. The csafe team meets twice a month every other Tuesday at the Princess Anne Police Sub-Station on South Somerset Ave. Anyone in the community is invited to attend the meetings. The Princess Anne Police Department is also in the second year of having a school resource officer in the schools. Corporal Scott Carew serves as the S.R.O. at Princess Anne elementary school and Greenwood elementary school. The S.R.O. is responsible for patrolling the school grounds and ensuring the safety and security of each student. The S.R.O. has three basic functions in the school which are; law enforcement, law related education and counseling to students. The S.R.O. works together with the school to solve problems at the school and in the surrounding community.
This school year the Princess Anne Police Department has started the D.A.R.E. program which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education. This program is under the S.R.O. program and is taught by Corporal Tim Bozman to fifth grade students at Princess Anne elementary and Greenwood elementary. D.A.R.E. teaches students the harmful affects of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs and ways to say no. ” D.A.R.E. also teaches students ways to be in charge of their lives and how to build healthy friendships.
